Dittisham Regatta – Saturday 6 August, 11 am start

Dittisham Regatta is a fun, day-long, family orientated event that takes place every August on the Quay. There are lots of rowing races for different age groups and open to all-comers – but you need to book. Along the Quay there are various stalls with competitions, refreshments and cakes. For children there are traditional games and an obstacle race.

There is a BBQ on the beach and the Anchor Stone Cafe and Ferry Boat Inn are close by.

More information is available on the Dittisham Regatta Facebook page, including an email link for the rowing booking form.

There are posters around the village and a free programme of events is available in the Ferry Boat Inn and in the Red Lion Inn.

Any money made is used to fund future regattas and some is donated to local charities.

Energy Efficiency Grants

Lower-income householders across Devon can apply for free energy efficiency improvements to their homes worth thousands of pounds.

Householders can improve their homes by ensuring that they are warmer, less draughty, and less damp. Improvements will also reduce energy bills and lower the home’s carbon emissions.

The grant scheme is being delivered by the Cosy Devon partnership: www.cosydevon.com

It is available to Devon residents who have an annual combined household income of less than £30,000 and whose homes have an Energy Performance Certificate rating of E, F or G.

Bonfires

Please don’t have bonfires that will affect your neighbours

???? Bonfires could create additional problems for people dealing with breathing difficulties

???? Bonfires come with additional risks, which could put extra pressure on our emergency services

???? Green waste smokes, if residents must burn please only burn dry garden waste.

???? The creation of a habitat pile is an alternative.

???? If bonfire smoke creates a nuisance this can be reported to South Ham District Council.

Digital Connectivity

Superfast broadband is coming – check if you’re included!

As part of a “Connecting Devon & Somerset” project, network provider Airband is under contract to provide high-speed fibre broadband connectivity (FTTP) to premises with slow connections and is working on rollout in our area.

To find out whether or not your property is included, visit the www.airband.co.uk website. Enter your postcode into any of the “check availability” boxes. The website will return one of three messages:

  • Great News you can get superfast broadband’ that is referring to fixed wireless but this is not made clear.
  • Your address is part of the Connecting Devon and Somerset (CFS) funded project’ this means you are due to get FTTP.
  • You’re one step closer to the getting connected’ it means Airband are building in your approximate area and you may get offered a connection, but your premise isn’t in the CDS contract.

You can register your interest with Airband using the website.

In addition, South Hams District Council has established a Community Broadband initiative to identify digital connectivity solutions to homes/businesses struggling with poor broadband. There is more information here: https://southhams.gov.uk/community-broadband
