The correspondence below has been received from South Hams District Council.
There is a current consultation. Closing date consultation 8th June 2025.
This is an item on the Agenda for the Parish Council meeting on Wednesday 4 June 2025.
The BT needs assessment found that there were no calls, including no Helpline calls in the last 12 months.
The Parish Council has the option to to adopt The Level phone box at a cost of £1.
If it does that it would be responsible for the ongoing maintenance.
Is there a use for the phone box ie a reason to adopt it?
Parishioners are invited to give their views –
I write to inform you that South Hams District Council has received notification from BT of its proposed intention to remove / remove the telephony from 17 phone boxes in the South Hams. I write to advise you that one of the phone boxes proposed for removal is within your Parish.
Plans and street view pictures of the box are attached.
BT have assessed the phone box using the criteria in Ofcom’s Review of the telephony universal service obligation
Attached is the breakdown of the assessment of usage etc.. carried out by BT.
In line with the requirements of the regulations SHDC is carrying out a 30 day public consultation period. Any consultation responses received will, upon completion of the consultation period, be forwarded on to BT for their consideration. Also attached to this e-mail is a copy of the SHDC Notice that will be placed on the phone box (the notice should be in place by Friday 9th May).
Should you wish to comment on the proposed removal of the phone box please do so via e-mail to : clearly indicating ‘SHDC Dittisham phone box consultation response’ by 8th June 2025. The attached site notice also includes a link to details on how to adopt a phone box should this be something the Parish Council may consider.
